Whew, it’s been a minute since I last got to write one of these! Our next puzzle is Talkin’ All That Jazz by Tim Okamura from an awesome company, Apostrophe Puzzles! Apostrophe is a black-led, women-led puzzle company that features artwork from artists of color. I found them on instagram through another puzzler, after their facebook ad was labeled as racist, and their ability to run ads suspended indefinitely. All due to them being proudly female and black. Which is BALONEY, they should be proud of those things, and be allowed to do so! I hopped on over to their website and bought a couple puzzles, but this is the first one we’re talking on!
The puzzle is 1,000 pieces, and 24″x24″ square. The box feels absolutely heavenly once you take off the shrink wrap, a smooth velvety texture that makes you just want to sit there and pet it. Like if ASMR was tactile. We opened the box last night to get a feel for the pieces, and fam, wow. The same texture is on the pieces, it has been a pleasure to flip these pieces right side up and pull out the side pieces. We happened to find a corner to start putting together, and the way that these fit together is phenomenal. Tight fit, smooth finish, this puzzle was created as a work of art as much as the art on the puzzle was.
It’s hard to tell if this puzzle is actually easier, or if it just seems that way because of how meticulous and time consuming the last puzzle we did was, but more of the border and some of the inner pieces have come together as we flipped the pieces over and separated out edges.
I’m thoroughly enjoying this puzzle so far, and if all of Apostrophe’s puzzles are like this, we’re going to be clamoring for more, very soon!!
